the roaring twenties

So is the Roaring 20’s going to be the next whored out trend by media and fashion? I’d be pretty skeptical if I saw some half-assed attempts at revisiting this era, but it seems promising.

Boardwalk Empire is my most anticipated show for the Fall 2010 season. Airing on HBO, Boardwalk Empire has been written by Terence Winter (The Sopranos creator), and the show’s pilot is being directed by the epic Martin Scorsese. To kick it all off, Boardwalk Empire’s lead is Steve Buscemi. Honestly, Steve Buscemi being the lead in a show alone should be reason enough to be interested. If you don’t know who Steve Buscemi is, you shouldn’t be reading this blog.

If these three megaliths aren’t reason enough, the show’s premise is “about the first days of both prohibition and Atlantic City. Buscemi stars as Nucky Thompson, the politician/gangster who ran Atlantic City in 1920′s.” (Matt West)

Something a bit more “encapsulating” (this was a great description btw) was a film by Ruth Hogben. Hogben directed this video for ShowStudio and captured Gareth Pugh’s A/W 2010 line gorgeously. “Encapsulating all the dark glamour, divine decadence and hedonistic joy of the roaring Twenties, Gareth Pugh’s A/W 2010 collection is a stylised, silver and black Art Deco fantasy projected at breakneck speed into the twenty-first century.”
